152) Not a military item but one which would have been purchased but officers for their personal use. This is a late Victorian to early Edwardian (Boer War, WW1) round spice tin. A strong closeable tin for traveling with complete with original contents. The main tin is excellent and heavy duty. It was most likely originally black but has been overpainted in a green colour. This is ancient and done long ago. the paintwork is good but does show surface wear and chips. When opening the tin a strong smell of herbs and spices can be smelt. The tin is complete with its 5 original spice tins, some with original contents. All tins are in good order and in the same paintwork as the outer tin. The lids are nicely impressed Cinnamon, Ginger, Clove, Mace & Allspice. To the centre of the main tin is a small grater which slots in place when not in use. This covers a small pot which contains what looks like nutmeg? The outside of the tins and inside of the main tin are dirty and dusty with spice powder etc but would clean up nicely. The tin measures 6 inches across X 2 ½ inches deep.
